The Vision of the Diocese
of Perú
Mission Statement The Diocese of Perú is a Church committed to mission,
which seeks to:
- Proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ by preaching, service and
testimony;
- Make disciples and bring them into a loving, praying community;
and
- Prepare and send them in mission and ministry.
It is a Church which aims to be clearly Peruvian and
Anglican in identity.
Objectives
- To plant ten new churches by the year 2010;
- To establish a school for ministry; and
- To renew and strengthen existing parishes and missions.
Strategy
We propose to bring about our vision and objectives by
doing the following:
- Plant ten new churches by the year 2010 [missionary churches which
multiply]
- Identify, recruit and train church planters, both national and
foreign mission personnel.
- Send church planting teams to begin churches in new areas.
- Call out groups from existing congregations to be the core of
new ones.
- Construct new church buildings and centers for mission.
- Establish a ministerial training program and train future leaders
by identifying, recruiting, and training future clergy, church
planters and ministers, and equipping them for mission. Such a
Diocesan School of Ministry will consist of two courses:
- Basic Ministry Course (Bishop’s Ministry Certificate)
The
Basic Ministry Course will be required for future Lay Ministers,
Deacons and Priests. Its course will include:
- Biblical, theological and ecclesiastical studies
- Development of gifts and ministry skills (eg. liturgy;
preaching; christian education; discipleship; small group work;
evangelism; church planting; pastoralia; youth ministry; etc)
- Practical field experience and work in mission, ministry and
social outreach programs
- Development of personal life and spirituality
- Exposure to good models of Anglican Church life, mission and
ministry. These models must enable us to say, “This is how we want
it to look”. This will involve us in establishing training
parishes within the Diocese and identifying churches in other
parts of the world to which students can be sent.
- Advanced Theological Studies (SEUT/SEM Madrid - Extension Course
leading to a Degree in Theology)
The Course of Advanced
Theological Studies will be required for future priests. Its course
work will be supplemented with Diocesan modules in subjects such as
liturgy, pastoralia, counseling skills, canon law, ecumenism, etc.
- Renew and strengthen existing parishes and mission work by
encouragingand building up the existing personnel, parishes and
mission work of the Diocese.
- Provide in-service training for clergy
- Offer training courses and retreats for congregations for the
development of gifts and ministry skills
- Build churches and improve facilities for growing congregations
- Bring Diocesan social outreach programs into a closer
relationship with local congregations
Identity
The Diocese of Perú believes that it must have an
identity, that is, of course distinctly Christian, but also unique. Out
indentity contains:
- Common prayer that celebrates the Lord’s presence and is marked by
liturgical order, Biblical preaching, praise and worship
- Doctrinal faith based in the Holy Scriptures and catholic Creeds
- Spirit-filled communities of prayer and service
- Discipling for all age groups
- Pastoral care and support
- Church life which holds together order, discipline and charismatic
spontaneity
- Responsible stewardship and good administration of all God has
given
- A clear way in and the nurture of new Christians
- Mission which includes both evangelism, church planting and social
outreach
- An ecumenical spirit
- A clear sense of being both Peruvian and Anglican
